The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared an indefinite strike action, directing all civil and public service workers across the state to withdraw their services with immediate effect.
The directive, issued on Monday, July 14, 2025, followed a resolution reached during the General Parliament of Civil and Public Service Workers held at the Arcade Ground in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
In a circular jointly signed by the NLC State Chairman, Comrade Hameed-Benco Ademola, and the State Secretary, Comrade Christian Omoneh, the union instructed all affiliates and workers in the state’s civil and public service to down tools indefinitely.
“Arising from the resolution reached at the General Parliament of Ogun State Civil/Public Service Workers… all members are directed to withdraw their services till further notice,” the statement read.
The NLC cautioned that any worker who fails to comply with the directive does so at their own risk, warning that the union would not be held responsible for any consequences arising from non-compliance.
Although the statement did not explicitly outline the grievances prompting the industrial action, the union called on the state government to initiate dialogue without delay, stressing the urgency of addressing the concerns of the workforce.
“We urge the Ogun State Government to, as soon as possible, call for dialogue on the issues affecting the teeming workers in the state,” the statement added.
The congress assured workers of continued updates and reaffirmed its commitment to unity and solidarity.
“A workers’ united can never be defeated. Solidarity forever,” it concluded.
