Three Bayelsa Secondary School graduates named in Nigeria’s U19 2025 Basketball World Cup squad

As the Nigeria Basketball Federation released the roster for the national female U-19 team expected to represent Nigeria at this year’s U19 World Cup in Czech Republic, three Bayelsa school graduates have been included

Out of the 12 players invited, 5 are foreign based while 7 are from the grassroots with 3 products from St. Jude’s Girls Secondary School and Benny International School of Bayelsa made the list.

The trio of Pius Idubamo Beggi, Abigail Isaac, and Favour Samson tutored by coach Tony Nelson, have gone through stages of development at the grassroots, tracking back to their days competing for Bayelsa State in Nestle Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship.

This is a testament to the agenda of the Bayelsa State Government through the Ministry of Education led by Dr. Gentle Emelah, the Honourable Commissioner, in identifying school sports as the best place to catch and nurture young talents.

Meanwhile, the 12 players invited would be led by the technical trio of Faustina Akhere Juliana, Nyingifa Atonye and Usuwa Chinedu Stone, as head coach, associate head coach, and assistant coach, respectively.

Others are Nora Ezike, Francisca Chukwu, Olanrewaju Ayodeji,Abigail Isaac, Olaoluwa O. Victoria and Favour Sampson.
