Apostle Dr John Okoriko, founder of Solid Rock Kingdom Church, has set the record straight regarding a recent media report that misrepresented his views on the existence of heaven and hell.
During his monthly interactive service with journalists at Four Rivers Tabernacle, Terminal, Ibeno LGA, Akwa Ibom state, the cleric clarified that he believes both realms do exist, but not as tangible, geographical locations.
“Heaven and hell are not physical places one can locate with a map. If they were, scientists would have discovered them by now, they are spiritual dimensions, a states of being that we begin to experience here on earth based on our spiritual life and choices.” Apostle Okoriko said.
Quoting the Gospel of John, the Apostle used the resurrection of Lazarus to illustrate his point. He referenced the conversation between Jesus and Martha, where Jesus declares Himself “the resurrection and the life,” showing that eternal life isn’t just a future promise but a present reality for those who believe.
“Many people assume that heaven is only something to expect after death, but Jesus challenged that thinking. He told Martha that those who believe in Him will never truly die.” he explained.
Apostle Okoriko further emphasized that heavenly experiences are not exclusive to Christians. He referenced figures such as Moses, Abraham, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, saying that none of were Christians, but they all had profound encounters with God.
“Historical records show that Christianity began long after these men lived,” he noted. “Yet God appeared to them and worked miracles in their lives. This shows that divine encounters are not limited to one religion. Muslims, Buddhists, and even non-religious people can experience what I call ‘heavenly places.’”
He explained that these spiritual experiences are often tied to personal alignment with divine principles, not religious labels. “Miracles still happen today. When you follow divine order of truth with integrity, faith and work, regardless of your religion, you can experience the presence of God.”
On the significance of this perspective for Christian believers, Apostle Okoriko stressed the importance of prayer, faith, and spiritual strength, integrity and work. “In a chaotic world like ours, where war and conflict are constant, having a strong testimony and a life of faith invites divine intervention,” he said.
“When you live rightly, God will show up for you, even when you least expect it.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to Christian teachings. “I am not against Christianity or any other religion. As a Christian, I teach the words of Jesus Christ to guide people through life’s challenges. But we must not limit God’s power to our denominational boundaries.”
