Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended his heartfelt condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State over the demise of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The revered traditional ruler passed away in the early hours of Monday at the age of 90.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Governor Abiodun described the late Olubadan as an urbane and cosmopolitan monarch, deeply rooted in Yoruba culture and tradition.
He praised the royal father for his peaceful reign, which, he noted, brought unity and progress to Ibadan land.
Speaking on behalf of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Abiodun expressed sympathy to Governor Makinde, the Olubadan-in-Council, and the entire people of Ibadan. He acknowledged the significant role Oba Olakulehin played in preserving the cultural heritage of the Yoruba people and lauded his contributions to the development of Ibadan.
“Though his passing is painful, we are comforted by the fact that Kabiyesi lived a fulfilled and impactful life,” he stated, praying for the repose of the monarch’s soul and strength for his family and subjects to bear the loss.
“May God grant Kabiyesi eternal rest as he joins his ancestors,” the statement concluded.
