Chelsea edge past Palmeiras 2–1 to reach Club World Cup Semi-Finals

Chelsea booked their place in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Brazilian giants Palmeiras in a tense quarter-final clash.

The Blues took the lead early in the game, as Cole Palmer slotted home in the 16th minute after a well-timed assist from Trevoh Chalobah. Chelsea maintained control for much of the first half, going into the break with a 1–0 advantage despite some resistance from the South American champions.

Palmeiras came out strong after halftime and found the equaliser in the 53rd minute when E. Willian converted from a pass by R. Rios, bringing the game level and intensifying the contest.

As both teams pushed for a winner, it was an unfortunate moment for Palmeiras that ultimately decided the match. In the 83rd minute, goalkeeper Weverton inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, giving Chelsea the lead once again.

The Brazilian side tried to mount a late comeback, but Chelsea’s defence held firm. The match featured several bookings, including cautions for Malo Gusto (41’), Liam Delap (45+3’), R. Rios (78’), and Levi Colwill (86’), highlighting the physical nature of the encounter.

With the win, Chelsea progressed to the semi-finals of the tournament, keeping their hopes alive for Club World Cup glory.
