Imo Govt expresses commitment to rehabilitate illicit drug consumers

The Imo State Government has expressed optimism to rehabilitate illicit drug users and reintragate them into the society for optical productivity.
This was made known by the Special Adviser to Governor on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs Monitoring, Hon. Ezechukwu Obonna, while addressing newsmen in Owerri.
He highlighted that the state government’s commitment to tackle drug abuse forms part of activities to marking the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse.
Obonna highlighted that to assist in tackling the menace, Imo government has donated hilux vans to the Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The Special Adviser stressed that the governor’s wife renovated a rehabilitation centre for the NDLEA to facilitate the treatment and reintegration of drug addicts.
He commended the governor, Hope Uzodimma for prioritising the welfare of young people through people-oriented investments that have enhanced the livelihoods of youths and the citizenry.
The Special Adviser highlighted the governor’s continued support for the NDLEA’s activities, so as to ensure optimal outcome.
He called for collective effort to enable the them tackle the menace of drug abuse efficiently.
He said, “I advise drug users and traffickers to desist immediately. The negative consequences of drug abuse are avoidable, and a drug-free society is possible.
“We must report drug traffickers, they are stealing the future of our youths, and we must not allow them.”
