Niger charges ALGON to sustain proof of address system implementation

The Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman has called on the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) to make deliberate and sustained efforts in ensuring the successful implementation of the recently activated Proof of Address System across Local Government Areas.

Alhaji Usman made this call during a stakeholders’ sensitization workshop for the activation and implementation of the Local Government Proof of Address System, held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.

The SSG who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Comrade Idris A. Legbo emphasized the importance of the initiative in enhancing administrative efficiency, security and socio-economic planning at the grassroots level.

Alhaji Usman therefore highlighted that the Proof of Address System is a critical tool for accurate data collection, improved service delivery and effective governance.

He urged ALGON members to take ownership of the initiative, ensuring its seamless integration into Local Government operations.

He reaffirmed the Niger State Government’s support for ALGON’s efforts and encouraged continuous collaboration between State and Local Government Authorities to achieve sustainable development.

Among the Niger State delegation included the State ALGON Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as other key ALGON officials from the State.

Their participation underscored the State’s commitment to adopting innovative solutions for improved governance.

Group Interactions: Stakeholders engaged in robust discussions to address challenges and proffer solutions for effective implementation.

Technical Sessions: Detailed breakdowns of the system’s modalities were provided to ensure clarity and compliance.

The Proof of Address System is designed to streamline residency verification, enhance security and facilitate efficient resource allocation and service delivery at the Local Government level. Its successful implementation will significantly improve governance and accountability across communities.
