Omoleye’s two years of impactful representation

June 13, 2023, marked two years since the legislative journey of Hon. Biodun Omoleye began, following his election by the good people of Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II. Alongside 359 other lawmakers from across the country, he was inaugurated into the 10th National Assembly.
Before his emergence as a federal legislator, Hon. Omoleye had held several strategic positions of trust. At a young age, he served as Special Assistant to a Minister of the Federal Republic. Following Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, he was appointed the pioneer General Manager of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency. His career has since included his appointment on two term as a Special Adviser to the Governor between 2010 and 2014 on Governance Policy and Strategy. He was later appointed as the Deputy Director-general of the governorship campaign organisation for the re-election of Dr. Kayode Fayemi in 2014.He had also served as Chairman of Ijero Local Government, member of a federal board, and Chief of Staff to the former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
In all these roles, Omoleye has exhibited exemplary leadership, driven by honesty, humility and a deep passion for service. He views politics as a platform for meaningful impact and despite his quiet demeanor, he is known for remarkable competence and effective delivery.
Since assuming office, Hon. Omoleye who is also the chairman, House Committee on Nigeria-Canada Parliamentary Friendship, has brought his vast experience in public service to bear, reimagining what true legislative representation entails. His two-year record reflects a committed effort to justify the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Ijero, Ekiti West and Efon Local Government Areas.
Despite his prior experience in the executive arm of government, Omoleye has seamlessly adapted to the legislative terrain, effectively discharging his constitutional duties of lawmaking, oversight and representation. His performance in these areas, as well as in corporate social responsibility, has earned him widespread admiration among constituents and observers alike.
A key highlight of his legislative contributions is the sponsorship of a bill to establish a Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery in the ancient town of Ijero-Ekiti. The bill, which has passed second reading, promises to significantly improve healthcare delivery and educational opportunities in Ekiti State and beyond.
When passed into law, the institution will train professional health workers, generate employment, stimulate the local economy and serve as a long-term investment in the region’s development. It will also help address the shortage of healthcare personnel caused by the mass emigration of professionals.
Worried by the plights of the victims of natural and artificial disasters, Omoleye also sponsored a motion where he advocated for a review of the current disaster policy framework for national development to put in place a new national disaster insurance scheme in order to ensure public confidence. Omoleye while leading the debate lamented that billions of Nigeria tax payers funds are allocated to address natural and artificial disasters, yet no significant relief have been provided for affected victims and in most cases, the victims become worst, even though the good and services are insured. He therefore called on national agencies, the ministry of Information, National Orientation Agency (NOA) and public enlightenment units of the National Emergency Agency to embark on public enlightenment and sensitization programmes nationwide in all Nigeria languages to educate the people on early warning signals.
In the past two years, Hon. Omoleye has organized five major empowerment programmes targeting women, youths, farmers, students of special schools and artisans. To commemorate his first 100 days in office, he distributed various items to constituents to enhance their livelihoods.
In November 2023, he initiated an empowerment programme for over 100 women across the 33 wards in his constituency, training them in the art of Adire (local fabric) production. At the end of the programme, participants received start-up kits and financial support. Today, many of them are thriving and Omoleye has pledged to transform them into a cooperative society to ensure sustainable growth in the textile business.
In a similar vein, another set of 100 youths benefited from a seminar featuring experts in agriculture, ICT, business and governance. This programme was designed to broaden their skill sets and increase their capacity to contribute meaningfully to society.
Demonstrating his commitment to youth development, Omoleye facilitated the construction of the first-ever National Youth Centre in the constituency. Located in Ijurin-Ekiti, the centre, now at an advanced stage of completion will serve as a hub for vocational training, leadership development and recreational activities, connecting local youths to opportunities across the country and beyond.
In a gesture of inclusiveness, Omoleye also extended his support to the School for the Deaf in Ikoro-Ekiti, donating over 150 mattresses to improve the welfare of special needs students.
His fifth empowerment initiative, themed “Strategic Empowerment for Farmers and Artisans,” was held on April 28, 2025, in his hometown of Ijurin-Ekiti where over 500 young people who had learned various trades but lacked the means to acquire tools were equipped with farming and artisan equipment, empowering them to become self-reliant.
On infrastructure and social amenities, Hon. Omoleye has equally made notable contributions. Through his “Light-Up Projects,” he has facilitated the installation of solar-powered street lights in no fewer than eight communities, including Ita-Wure Transit Village, Efon-Alaaye, Okemesi Township, Ita-Ido, Erijiyan, Ipoti,Ijurin, the High Court premises in Ijero and Ijero Township. These installations have enhanced night-time security and commercial activities in the benefitting areas.
To address chronic power outages, he also facilitated a 33,000 KVA transformer and funded its installation to restore electricity to Igbo Eye area of Efon Alaaye—benefitting residents of Owode, State Government College, and surrounding communities.
Understanding the role of infrastructure in education, Omoleye provided a facelift for the Ipole-Iloro Community Grammar School in Ekiti West LGA by constructing a new block of six classrooms. This intervention addressed critical infrastructural deficits and was widely applauded by the school management, the community and traditional ruler, the Olupole of Ipole-Iloro, Oba Babalola Oladele, who described it as unprecedented in the town’s history.
Furthermore, the lawmaker has supported numerous local initiatives by students, women groups, youth associations, social clubs and community-based development efforts.
As 2025 progresses, residents of Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II can be assured that more dividends of democracy are on the horizon as Hon. Biodun Omoleye remains committed to attracting more federal presence and developmental projects to the constituency through quality, people-centered representation. According to the lawmaker, some of the programmes and projects that the constituents should be expecting for the second half of this year includes provision of bursary and students support facilities to over a thousand higher institution students, rehabilitation of rural farmstead roads, construction of more classrooms in secondary schools, support for local market women, while towns and villages that are yet to benefit from solar lights will be attended to.
