The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Executive Committee (EXCO) has approved several contracts aimed at enhancing infrastructure development across the nation’s capital. The approvals were made during the Committee’s 3rd meeting of the year, chaired by the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.

According to a press statement from Musa Rabi Umaru, the Assistant Director Press, Office of the Minister on Wednesday, the approved contracts will address critical areas, including: Road infrastructure, by upgrading and supporting obsolete streetlights on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road 1) with a hybrid lighting system to enhance security and nighttime driving experience; Access roads, through constructing access roads, drainages, and culverts in Durumi District (approximately 1.7 kilometers) and Mabushi District, including underground drainage services and street lighting.

Others are: Provision of pedestrian access control at interchanges in 12 locations, involving fencing green areas with mesh wire and providing walkways to secure sensitive areas and prevent open defecation; Construction of a Magistrate Court in Jabi, in addition to the two earlier approved in Asokoro and Garki; Two-month extension for solid waste collection and management services across 40 districts in the FCT; Emergency contract awarded and completed to control erosion impacting major pipelines from the Lower Usuma Dam, which supplies water to Kubwa, the Airport, and Gwagwalada.

The FCT Administration’s commitment to enhancing urban maintenance and waste management is evident in the approved contracts. The projects aim to improve the overall quality of life for residents and visitors in the FCT.
