Dignitaries Storm Ogun for Gateway Games 2024 opening ceremony

The much-anticipated opening ceremony of the Gateway Games 2024 took place in Ogun State, drawing an impressive array of high-profile dignitaries and national leaders.

Leading the delegation is Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the ceremony. His presence highlights the Federal Government’s strong support for the event and its significance in promoting national unity through sports.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, shared updates via his official Facebook page, revealing that several state governors are also in attendance. These include Governors Ahmed Usman Ododo (Kogi), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Hope Uzodimma (Imo). Deputy Governors Monday Onyeme (Delta) and Senator Akon Eyakenyi (Akwa Ibom) are also present.

The event is further dignified by the presence of two of Ogun State’s most iconic figures—Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Former Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba. Their attendance reflects the deep pride of Ogun indigenes in the role the state continues to play in national development.

Also attending are the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, federal lawmakers from Ogun State, royal fathers, top government functionaries, and celebrated sports personalities.

Governor Abiodun described the event as a milestone for sports and youth development in Ogun State. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a society where talent is nurtured and hard work is rewarded.

“The opening of Gateway Games 2024 is a defining moment. We are proud to welcome this esteemed gathering of leaders and stakeholders,” the governor said. “This event stands as a symbol of unity, excellence, and national pride. Ogun State remains committed to championing youth development through sports.”
