The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike says the FCT Administration (FCTA) under his watch is committed to enhancing infrastructure, particularly in water supply to satellite towns, adding that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive.
This was contained in a press statement made available to journalists by Rabi Umar, Assistant Director, Press (Office of the Minister), on Friday.
According to Wike, the FCT satellite town water project is part of ongoing efforts to provide water supply to the Abuja city center and FCT Area Councils. The project includes extending the water supply to Bwari, Karu, and parts of Kubwa. The Minister revealed that funding for this project has been included in the national budget and the FCT’s statutory budget.
On the Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC) renovation, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and commended Julius Berger for the quality job done. But on the Arterial Road N5 construction, Julius Berger assured the FCT administration that the project will be completed as planned.
In the area of budget allocation,
Wike disclosed that 85% of the FCT’s N1.7 trillion 2025 statutory budget is earmarked for completing ongoing projects, including those in health and education sectors, informing that the education sector alone has capital projects worth N140 billion.
On the focus on completing existing projects, the Minister reiterated the FCTA’s commitment to completing existing projects, rather than awarding new ones. “Our intention is to continue with what we saw. Government is a continuum. It’s public funds, and we will complete it,” Wike oromised.
With this commitment to infrastructure development, the FCT administration aims to deliver projects that benefit the residents of Abuja and meet the expectations of Nigerians.
