Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, also known as Amotekun, have arrested a 35-year-old man, Obi Emmanuel, over alleged involvement in illegal drug trafficking in Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.
Emmanuel was apprehended around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in front of a chemist shop following credible intelligence provided by the Ogun State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
According to the Director of Intelligence and Investigation, Shodeke Sholanke, the suspect had allegedly recruited a commercial driver, popularly known as Alausa, to transport hard drugs from Abeokuta to Ayetoro.
The NDLEA had earlier intercepted the driver of an 18-seater Mazda bus along the Abeokuta–Ayetoro road on Wednesday. During interrogation, the driver reportedly confessed that the drugs in question belonged to Emmanuel, prompting a swift response by Amotekun operatives who subsequently arrested the suspect.
“The arrest came on the heels of credible intelligence suggesting that Emmanuel was orchestrating drug deals in the region and had enlisted the help of a commercial driver who is now in NDLEA custody,” Sholanke stated.
Following his arrest, Emmanuel was handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Amotekun Corps has urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that may jeopardize public safety. The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and abuse across the state.
