Niger reiterates it’s commitment to promoting sports for development -Sport Commissioner

Niger State government has reiterated its commitment to advancing sporting activities across the state.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Yahya Ibrahim Gulbin Boka, during a meeting with chairmen of various sports associations in the state.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Nuhu Garba Ngaski, the commissioner said the ministry is doing everything possible to promote the growth and success of sports in the State.

He noted that the state governor is making deliberate efforts to reposition the sports sector to be more reliable and capable of engaging the youth meaningfully.

Gulbin Boka added that since assuming office, Governor Umar Mohammed Bago has shown great commitment toward building modern sports infrastructure that will place Niger State on the national sporting map.

He thanked the governor for his unwavering support to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development and applauded his determination to ensure the completion of the Ahmadu Bahago Sports Complex.

According to the commissioner, the meeting with the chairmen of sports associations was timely, as it addressed key issues affecting sports development in the state.

He emphasized that the ministry is fully committed to seeing significant improvements in the sector.

“Our vision as a ministry is to create an environment that not only supports athletes but also empowers them to excel at local, national, and international levels. I urge the people of Niger State to collaborate with the ministry in moving sports forward,” he stated.

He further explained that the ministry’s mission is to identify and nurture talents, promote excellence, and put in place robust infrastructure that will support sports associations across the state.

“We can achieve more by upgrading and maintaining our sports facilities, which are essential for proper training and competitions,” he said.

Hon. Gulbin Boka also appreciated the role the chairmen of sports associations play in promoting sports in the state, assuring them that the ministry will continue to work closely with them.

Speaking to journalists, the Chairperson of the Special Sports Association, Amina Jummai Gimba, commended the ministry’s efforts in making Niger a hub for sporting excellence.

She noted that with the level of commitment shown by the ministry, more youths in the state will be actively engaged in sports.

Jummai further explained that the association is in active collaboration with the ministry to strengthen cooperation for the overall development of sports in Niger State.

Some of the chairmen who spoke at the meeting expressed appreciation for the ministry’s efforts and called for even greater support and investment in the state’s sports sector.
