The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the NIN Authentication Service (NINAuth), a new digital platform developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to provide secure, seamless identity verification for all government services.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has endorsed the initiative, approving the mandatory use of NIN-based authentication across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This directive is in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the strengthening of Nigeria’s National Identity Management System.
NINAuth is designed as a comprehensive suite of services—accessible via web, API, and mobile platforms—that ensures secure identity verification while safeguarding individual privacy. It allows Nigerians and legal residents to confirm their identity with greater control and transparency, especially when accessing public services.
According to the NIMC, the new platform will serve as the exclusive channel for NIN-based authentication and verification, ensuring real-time access and compliance with national identity policies. Services that will now integrate with NINAuth include SIM registration, passport processing, tax filings, driver’s license renewals, and various government intervention programs.
Key features of NINAuth include:
Enhanced Security – Protects personal data from unauthorized access.
User Control – Gives individuals autonomy over when and how their data is shared.
Seamless Access – Offers a unified and secure sign-on experience for a wide range of government services.
The application also supports Know Your Customer (KYC) processes by requiring user consent before any personal data is shared, thus promoting trust and accountability in digital transactions.
The NIMC has called on Nigerians to download the NINAuth App, now available on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The Commission has also published a comprehensive implementation guide at https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng.
Speaking on the launch, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to enhancing digital identity systems in Nigeria. “NINAuth represents a significant milestone in our journey towards a more secure, transparent, and user-friendly identity management infrastructure,” he said.
