Liverpool clinch Premier League title, matching Manchester United’s record

Liverpool have been crowned the new Premier League champions, matching Manchester United’s landmark achievement of 20 top-flight titles.

The Reds secured the trophy in emphatic fashion with a resounding 5–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at a jubilant Anfield.

Under the leadership of Arne Slot, Liverpool dominated the league throughout the Dutchman’s debut season, suffering just two defeats across 34 matches and ending Manchester City’s four-year reign at the top.

Although needing only a draw to mathematically seal the title, Liverpool fell behind early when former Reds forward Dominic Solanke headed Spurs into an unexpected lead.

The early setback, however, only ignited Slot’s side. They roared back with three quick goals before the interval, sending Anfield into celebration mode.

Luis Díaz equalized in the 16th minute, converting Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross at close range, a goal confirmed after a VAR review overturned an initial offside decision.

Just eight minutes later, Alexis Mac Allister put Liverpool ahead with a sensational strike from the edge of the box, easing any nerves among the home crowd.

Cody Gakpo then made it 3–1 shortly after, expertly turning and finishing inside the penalty area, ensuring Liverpool were well on course for a memorable night.

The Reds showed no signs of easing off in the second half. Mohamed Salah added a fourth with a trademark cut-inside-and-finish move, celebrating by cheekily snapping a selfie with a supporter’s phone.

Tottenham’s misery deepened when Destiny Udogie turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Salah, sealing a comprehensive defeat for the visitors.

The triumph marked the first time Liverpool were able to lift the Premier League trophy in front of a full Anfield crowd since 1990, contrasting sharply with their behind-closed-doors title celebration in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Slot’s side still have the opportunity to eclipse Manchester City’s 91-point total from last season as the campaign draws to a close.
