Empowering Northern Women in Arts: WAFFCON 2025 Convention shines light on hidden talents

The Women in Arts, Fashion, and Films (WAFFCON) 2025 convention took place with a powerful theme: “Northern Lights.” According to Mariam Umar Maigida, President of the Female Artists Association of Nigeria and key speaker at WAFFCON, the theme highlights the often-neglected area of Northern women in arts.

The Standard Times Nigeria correspondent reports that Mariam emphasizes the power of storytelling in showcasing Northern women’s work and creating economic opportunities. She believes art will shape women’s futures in the industry and encourages them to turn their passions into businesses.

Overcoming challenges in arts, Mariam shares her personal experience of facing obstacles as a young artist in the North. She advises women in arts to be resilient and not let their communities define them.

The Convener, Jonathan Omoara, describes WAFFCON as a celebration of women’s contributions in Africa. He promises to expand WAFFCON across Africa and Nigeria, providing a platform for women to shine.

Abdulkareem Silifat Oziaoma, a visual artist and photographer, emphasizes that the theme “Northern Lights” showcases Northern women’s creativity and beauty. She advises Northern women to continue expressing themselves and their creativity.
