Club World Cup: Man City, Chelsea set for record £97m prize money

Premier League giants Manchester City and Chelsea stand to earn up to £97million in prize money from the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13.
The overall £775million prize fund will be divided among the 32 participating teams, with £407million allocated for participation and £368million distributed based on performance. European clubs, ranked by FIFA’s sporting and commercial criteria, will receive the highest participation bonuses.
The top-ranked European team will earn £29.6million just for competing, while the tournament winner could receive £97million by securing all group-stage victories and lifting the trophy. A group-stage win is worth £1.5million, while teams reaching the last 16 earn £5.8million, the quarter-finals bring £10.2million, the semi-finals award £16.3 million, and the champions claim £31million.
Manchester City and Chelsea qualified due to their recent Champions League triumphs in 2023 and 2021, respectively. Liverpool, despite reaching the 2022 Champions League final, missed out as only two clubs per country are eligible.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed the tournament’s new format, calling it “the pinnacle of club football.” The revamped 32-team competition will be held every four years, replacing the previous seven-team annual event.
Europe will have 12 representatives, the most from any continent, while clubs from Asia (AFC), Africa (CAF), North and Central America (Concacaf), South America (Conmebol), and Oceania (OFC) will also participate.
