Niger Tornadoes hopeful ahead of Akwa United crash

By: TUNDE BOLAJI –MINNA.

Niger Tornadoes have been handed a significant boost with the return to fitness of key players Ifeanyi Okechukwu and Daniel Akanbek ahead of their midweek Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash against Akwa United.

The duo had been sidelined with injuries sustained during the matchday 29 tie against Katsina United in Lafia and subsequently missed the encounter against Shooting Stars last weekend.

Their return is a welcome relief for Coach Majin Mohammed, who has had to navigate a lean squad due to injuries and national team call-ups.

The Ikon Allah Boys have struggled with the absence of key players, which has impacted their recent performances.

Coach Mohammed acknowledged the challenges, stating, “We’ve battled injury crises and players out on national assignments since the second stanza began.

“The situation has affected us, but we’ll keep pushing to find a way out.”

While Okechukwu and Akanbek’s return is a positive development, Niger Tornadoes will still be without Ismaila Sarki and Joseph Godstime due to injury.

Meanwhile, Papa Daniel, Sabiu Ibrahim, and Rickson Mendos are currently on national duty.

Niger Tornadoes will face Akwa United in a rescheduled NPFL matchday 31 tie at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Thursday.
