Niger Tornadoes’ talented winger, Rickson Mendos has been called up to the National U20 Flying Eagles camp.

According to the club’s media team, this means the enterprising and energetic winger won’t be available for the Ikon Allah Boys as the NPFL enters crucial stage of the season.

The national team call up is an opportunity and a great honor for the ambitious and youthful Mendos.

The Flying Eagles resumed camping in Abuja this week ahead of their preparations for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria will contend with Egypt, Morocco and South Africa in what promises to be a challenging group at this year’s tournament scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast from April 26 to May 18.

The two top-placed teams in each group are guaranteed spots in the quarter-finals, while four semi-finalists at the upcoming U-20 AFCON will fly Africa’s flag at this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup finals scheduled for Chile from September 27 to October 19.

Mendos inclusion means, Tornadoes now have two representatives with the national U-20 team as he joins Sabiu Ibrahim who has already established himself in the Aliyu Zubair’s side.
