Multiple accidents cause heavy traffic on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

A string of accidents near the NASFAT roundabout on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway caused significant traffic congestion on Sunday morning, leaving many motorists stranded.
The incidents, which occurred shortly after 7 a.m., involved two trucks and multiple other vehicles, leading to serious disruptions along the busy route.
Officials from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Police were deployed to the scene to manage traffic, clear wreckage, and provide assistance to those affected.
Providing insight into the situation, TRACE Deputy Commander for the Mowe-Ibafo axis, Mr. Kabir Ojerinde, shared an eyewitness account of the crash.
“A trailer traveling from Lagos lost control while trying to avoid a smaller vehicle crossing at the NASFAT roundabout. This caused it to veer off course and collide with multiple vehicles,” he explained.
Emergency responders have since been working to remove debris from the scene. One of the trucks, which was transporting a large load of watermelons, has already been cleared to ease traffic flow.
Although the precise cause of the crashes is yet to be confirmed, authorities suspect that factors such as speeding and poor visibility may have contributed to the incidents.
Ojerinde noted that an official report, including details on possible casualties and vehicle identification, would be released in due course.
Meanwhile, motorists have been advised to drive cautiously as emergency teams continue efforts to restore normal traffic movement.
