Teni Reflects on Health Struggles: ‘Money Can’t Buy Good Health’

Renowned singer and songwriter, Teni, has opened up about her recent battle with illness, sharing her experience in a candid and humorous video.
Popularly known as the ‘Sugar Mummy of Lagos,’ Teni revealed that she was severely ill with malaria for two weeks, leaving her weak and without an appetite.
Despite her condition, the ‘Billionaire’ hitmaker maintained her signature sense of humor, joking about her appearance and even making lighthearted remarks about her late father’s burial site.
Addressing her ordeal, she blamed mosquitoes in the Ikate area for her illness and playfully called on the local ruler to take action.
“Ah, all the mosquitoes in Ikate, e no go better for them. Oba, please do something about it because malaria really dealt with me,” she lamented.
Reflecting on the severity of her illness, she referenced a line from her song Uyo Meyo, saying, “When I sang ‘Ohun toju mi ti ri ah’ (meaning ‘What my eyes have seen’), I didn’t know malaria would be part of it.”
She also joked about her late father, quipping, “They need to turn off the AC in my father’s burial ground because it felt like he wanted to take a nap. I had to tell him, ‘Wake up, your daughter is suffering!’”
Despite her health struggles, Teni still traveled to Ondo for a scheduled performance, explaining that she had no choice but to honor the event.
“I was sick, weak, and couldn’t eat, but I still performed because who will feed me if I don’t work? Any money that enters the Sugar Mummy account does not come back out!” she joked.
In the video’s caption, she left fans with a thought-provoking message: “Money can’t buy good health, only God can.”
