Liverpool’s Arne Slot Handed Two-Game Ban After Everton Red Card

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been handed a two-match touchline suspension following his red card in the 2-2 draw against Everton. Slot was sent off after confronting referee Michael Oliver at the conclusion of the Premier League fixture at Goodison Park on February 12.
As a result, he will be absent from the touchline for Liverpool’s upcoming home matches against Newcastle on Wednesday and Southampton on March 8. However, he will still be allowed to manage from the sidelines for the Champions League last-16 first-leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain on March 5.
Alongside the ban, Slot has been fined £70,000 by an independent Football Association commission after admitting to improper conduct. His assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, has also been handed a two-game suspension and a £7,000 fine. Additionally, both Liverpool and Everton were penalized for failing to control their players, receiving fines of £65,000 and £50,000, respectively.
The controversy erupted after James Tarkowski’s dramatic 98th-minute equalizer, which led to wild celebrations and a pitch invasion by Everton fans. Liverpool players protested the goal, claiming that a foul should have been given for a push on Ibrahima Konaté.
Following the final whistle, Slot exchanged words with an assistant referee before shaking hands with Oliver, who then brandished the red card. Hulshoff was also sent off in the aftermath of the heated exchange.
Slot, who did not immediately speak to the media post-match, later acknowledged his frustration over the amount of stoppage time played. In a later press conference, he admitted, “Emotions got the better of me.”
