Stampede: Several Children feared Dead at Ibadan funfair
Tragedy struck in Ibadan, Oyo State, as a stampede at a private funfair held at Basorun Islamic High School on Wednesday reportedly claimed the lives of several children.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the state government had swiftly deployed a rapid response team to assist victims.
Oyelade stated that injured children were rushed to various hospitals across Ibadan, including Patnas Hospital, Western Hospital, Ringroad State Hospital, Molly Specialist Hospital, and the University College Hospital (UCH).
He commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, for activating emergency response teams and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the victims and their families during this difficult time.
The state government emphasized that it was not involved in the planning of the event. It also underscored the need for proper coordination and safety measures when organising large gatherings, particularly those involving children and vulnerable individuals.
