Nasarawa Sanitation taskforce arrests 103 defaulters

By Sam Osuo -Lafia.Nasarawa State Environmental Sanitation taskforce, at the Weekend apprehended 103 people for breaching the Law of the exercise. In the bid to keep the State clean, Governor Abdullahi Sule led administration has since declared every last Saturday of the Month as Environmental Sanitation day. In an interview with Newsmen shortly after supervising the August edition of the exercise, the Prosecuting Officer in the State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mohammed Abubakar, said those arrested were involved in acts not in accordance with the Law during the period of the exercise. According to him the number comprises those arrested in Five out of the 13 Local Government Councils of the State.He said the number of arrest in Lafia, the State Capital and Nassarawa Eggon were 11 and 17, while 21 People were apprehended at Akwanga, a total number of 32 and 22 were arrested at Karu and Keffi Local Government Councils. On his part the State Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Kwanta Yakubu, who described the exercise as a great success, said the exercise recorded 85 percent compliance. The Commissioner who commended traditional rulers and Security agencies for their roles in making residents of the State to massively comply with the exercise, called on the people to avoid dumping waste in drainages during this raining session to allow free flow of water.
