Terrorists, riding on more than 200 motorcycles, attacked the position of the Nigeria Customs Service along the Zamfara-Katsina border, Northwest Nigeria, leaving at least eight villagers dead and many others kidnapped on Sunday.
A vehicle belonging to the Nigeria Customs Service was also burnt in the attack.
Isa Danbaba, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Katsina Command, confirmed the incident but stated that none of the 12 officers stationed in the position was harmed.
Danbaba said that the Command received intelligence of the terrorists’ arrival, noting that operatives of the Command could not confront them due to their large number.
A source who also spoke to the BBC Hausa Service noted that the terrorists moved to Zamfarawa and killed eight people.
In Walawa village, they also kidnapped an unknown number of women and children.
Zamfara and Katsina are two of the hotspots in terms of terrorist activities in Northwest Nigeria where thousands have been displaced and many others have continued to pay peace levy to the terrorists.
A Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, a nonprofit based in the United States, has estimated that no fewer than 5,000 people have been killed by terrorists in the sub-region in two years.
