Group wants youths, grassroots engagement in policy formulation

To promote inclusiveness in policy formulation and government data, in order to enhance public service delivery and correct report of the activities of the representatives of the parliament, Connected Development (CODE), Kwara team has said that inclusiveness in policy formulation and enforcement was key to participatory democracy.
The state lead of CODE, Kehinde Akinsola, told our Correspondent that the aim of the group was to promote inclusiveness in policy formulation and enforcement, enhance public service delivery and end Gender Based Violence (GBV) amongst others through a campaign platform called Open Parly Nigeria.
Akinsola said that Open Parly Nigeria Campaign will enable more engagement between decision makers and citizens for a better society.
“CODE is introducing Open Parly Nigeria as a platform for the Nigerian civic space to level the disconnection between the national and local communities.
“Open Parly started in year 2015 at Zimbabwe and now it is here in Nigeria. The objective of OpenParlyNG is to promote transparency and accountability of the state house of assembly members performance.
“We aim to campaign and promote inclusiveness in policy formulation and enforcement, enhance public service delivery and end Gender Based Violence (GBV) amongst others.
‘”We will be making use of the cross sector engagement to achieve social change development programs like social justice, radical transparency, youth engagement and participatory democracy.
“Our activities will be done using live tweeting and live streaming of the assembly activities, open council, hackathons, boot-camps, digital media weeks, article publishing amongst other strategies.
“Kwara is one of the pilot states from which the campaign will be kick-started in the country.
“We have made a courtesy visit to the chairman, Kwara House of Assembly Commission, Mr. Femi Yusuf and he has assured us the open handedness of KWHA in the campaign.
“Open Parly Nigeria will serve as a platform to getting right information about the state assembly and its activities”, he said.
